Something More Sure (Part 3)
Thanks for showing up as we continue our study of Kevin DeYoung’s book “Taking God at His word”. Today we continue to look at 2 Peter 1.16-21- 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honour and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” 18 w

Something More Sure (Part 2)
“James, all this talk of the Bible is all very sweet but doesn’t everybody know that it is just a fairy story for grownups? It is nothing more than a ragtag of myth mixed with manmade ideas with a generous helping of superstition for good measure!” I respond by saying that it is worthwhile to note that while such ideas have been thrown around for over 2000 years, it is still to be proven that the Bible is incorrect in any statement that it has ever made. Let that sink in. But

Something More Sure (Part 1)
Do you want to hear God speaking to you? You can! Amazing? Yes! Out of this world? No, this experience is to be had very much in this world and can be had every day. Sounds amazing, doesn’t it? Can you imagine God speaking to you-personally, certainly, authoritatively? Well, the good news is that every single one of us can hear God today, right here, right now, at this very moment. God still speaks. And he has a Word for us that is sure, steady, and unerring. How? Just read y

Noah's Moody Girlfriend //
A while back a few of us from the church went along to see the Hollywood’s blockbuster; Noah which has an all-star cast headed by Russell Crowe. The director, and self professed atheist, Darren Aronofsky, has boasted that the film is the least biblically based “Bible film” ever made so I wasn’t expecting much on that score. And I wasn’t disappointed. Noah is depicted as a loopy environmentalist who seems happy to kill any human who kills an animal (sure can’t remember readin

Do You Need To Top Up Your Credit? //
How do you pay for your mobile phone calls? Many people, if not the majority, use the pay-as-you-go system, where you purchase credit beforehand and top-up as you need. Many of us know what it is like to run out of credit just when you need to make that important call. In spiritual matters we all instinctively realize that we need credit and we know only too well what it feels like when our credit is very low or has even run out. This gives us a very interesting illustration

The Myth Of Self-Esteem //
“Never criticise” is the mantra that we are all told these days when it comes to working with young people. Teachers are told not to use red pens because it crushes the spirit. Instead of getting an ‘F’ for ‘fail’, you now get a ‘U’ for ‘ungraded’ – as if that will make you feel better! Or instead of giving people grades A-F we give them grades A-C but with stars for those who did particularly well, hence in the UK you can get an A*. All this because we want to wrap people
